We are proud to announce our first rush cycle in Winter 2026! Our application is now live and due 11:59 PM on Saturday, January 17th. Check out our Instagram (@uchicagokhk) to learn more about KHK.
Who can rush Kappa Eta Kappa?
KHK is open to all undergraduate students interested in STEM fields, including molecular engineering, computer science, the physical sciences, mathematics, and related disciplines. We welcome students of all years, majors, and backgrounds who are curious about technical problem-solving and community.
What is KHK looking for in potential members?
There is no single “ideal” rushee. KHK values curiosity, integrity, and a genuine interest in learning and growing within STEM. We look for students who are thoughtful, collaborative, and excited to be part of a supportive academic and professional community.
Do I need to be a STEM major?
No. While many of our members are STEM majors, KHK welcomes students from a wide range of STEM backgrounds. What matters most is your interest in STEM, technical learning, and engagement with the community—not a specific major.
What if I can’t attend both rush events?
You are required to attend at least one rush event, although it is highly encouraged to attend both as there will be different brothers to meet. We understand that schedules can be busy, especially at the start of the quarter. While attending events is highly encouraged, please reach out to the KHK exec board if you have conflicts—we’re happy to work with interested students whenever possible.
What does rush look like?
Rush consists of two informational, social, and community-focused events where prospective members can learn about KHK and meet current members. The process is designed to be low-pressure and conversational, giving both sides the opportunity to determine fit.
What happens after I apply?
After submitting an application, selected candidates may be invited up to multiple rounds of interviews. These are meant to help us learn more about you and give you a deeper look into KHK. Depending on your major, there may be technical questions. These are only for us to evaluate your problem-solving and communication skills. Offers to join the pledge process are extended afterward.
What is a bid?
A bid is an invitation to participate in KHK’s pledge process, which serves as a mutual evaluation period for both the chapter and the prospective member.
What does the pledge process involve?
The pledge process is centered on learning, community building, and professional development. Pledges participate in academic support activities, technical and professional workshops, and chapter events. The process is designed to be manageable (and super fun!) alongside coursework and other commitments.
Is KHK a time-intensive commitment?
Like any organization, the experience depends on your level of involvement. KHK is mindful of academic priorities and works to ensure that participation is balanced and reasonable for students with demanding STEM coursework. However, we do expect a certain level of commitment to continue the process.
Is there hazing or required alcohol use?
Absolutely not. KHK has a strict zero-tolerance policy for hazing, coercion, or unsafe behavior. Our chapter prioritizes respect, safety, and inclusivity in all activities.
Can I rush or be a member of another pre-professional fraternity?
Students may rush KHK regardless of involvement in other pre-professional fraternities. However, we strongly recommend students to only join one pre-professional fraternity to get the best experience possible out of their limited time.
How much are dues?
Dues help support chapter programming, events, and national affiliation. The standard amount will be $50 USD per quarter, as we are committed to transparency and accessibility. However, please note that monetary concerns should never be a barrier—financial aid is available.
What if I don’t receive a bid?
Not receiving a bid does not reflect your value or potential. Recruitment is competitive, and many members have rushed multiple times. We strongly encourage interested students to rush again in the future.
How will KHK benefit me?
KHK offers a close-knit community of STEM students who support one another academically, technically, and professionally. Members gain access to peer learning, mentorship, alumni connections, and friendships that extend beyond college. Plus, there will be many fun excursions and brotherhood-bonding events!
Where can I learn more or contact the chapter?
You can reach us through our website (khkkappa.org), Instagram(@uchicagokhk), or by emailing the chapter directly (uchicagokhk@gmail.com). You're also more than welcome to reach out to any member of the E-Board directly. We’re always happy to answer questions or chat one-on-one.
